The core of the Property Claims unit is our staff of Senior Claims Examiners who handle policyholder's claims for property that we insure. Given the diversity of these product lines, these claims vary in size and technical complexity, yet our seasoned professionals have the flexibility to manage them all. Additionally, each technician offers value-added specialization, from Coverage interpretation and heavy equipment loss adjustment, to Fraud investigation.
General recommendations in case of a loss:
- Notify
Notify your agent as soon as possible that your property has sustained a loss. Provide as much information as possible, including contact names and phone numbers. Contact the police if the loss is due to any violation of the law, such as vandalism. We cannot take action until we know about a loss.
- Protect Your Property
Take whatever reasonable steps are necessary to prevent further damage. Keep receipts of any costs incurred for consideration as part of the claim. As an example, if strong winds tore a portion of the roof from your building, putting up a temporary cover would be a reasonable means of mitigating the damage.
- Itemize
Once the property is protected and secure, you can begin to itemize the damaged and undamaged items and begin to locate supporting paperwork that helps establish your claim.
- Read
It is very important that you read your policy when you get it from you agent, not just when you experience a loss. Encourage your agent to explain each section of your policy, and make sure that the policy is applicable to the risk that both you and your agent intended to insure.
We look forward to helping our insureds in time of need, and we hope these recommendations are useful. Please remember that if we don't know about a covered loss, we can't take action, so please notify us as soon as reasonably possible.
